This bird can be found throughout all of North America. The Adult male has a tinged pinkish coloring on it’s chest, where the female is a duller plain brown. They may raise up to six broods per year, that is more than any other native bird! They eat mostly on the ground, this is why I throw seed down on the ground under my feeders, though the squirrels seem to share the seeds from the feeder by knocking most of it to the ground every time they jump on… They eat quickly, then digest the food while they rest. They also eat small bits of gravel to help them digest hard seeds.
