The Burrowing Owl Says, “Hello!”

The Burrowing Owl Says, “Hello!”

Burrowing Owl

These birds are called the “howdy birds” by cowboys because they seem to nod a greeting from the entrances to their burrows. The ones in Florida tend to dig their own burrows, but those in the West usually use old burrows left by other animals, such as the prairie-dogs and ground squirrels. It was once told that they shared the same burrow with prairie-dogs and rattlesnakes all together at the same time, not sure whoever came up with that one, but its totally fiction!!!
