Remember to learn about your surroundings before you head out birding. This one is a beautiful beehive, but I made sure not to get too close and I didn’t make any sudden moves or upset the bees in any way. There are things you should be wary of when you are out and about. In Florida I’ve had to walk an extra 1/2 hour back on a longer trail because a giant alligator was sunning himself on my direct path to my car! In New Hampshire I had to take a bear bell with me and shake it often, so the bears would stay clear… I’ve come across coyotes and bobcats, usually I’ll try to take a trail that leads away from the direction where they are. So make sure to have extra water, food and sunscreen because sometimes you just have to stay out birding longer than you expected to!
