The Common Gallinule Makes Me Think Of Halloween…

I know that the colors are quite the same or in the correct order, but every time I see the Common Gallinule I think or candy corn, which then reminds me of Halloween…

The bills are very bright red and yellow and quite noticeable! I saw these two down in South Carolina.

If you are ever in South Carolina, please try to take the time to go to Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet. You have to pay a small entrance fee, but they have several different habitats for the birds, so you are likely to see quite a variety!

The park has 2500 acres, which includes 1060 acres of salt marsh and tidal waters, 750 acres of forests, 90 acres of freshwater and brackish marshes, 400 acres of maritime shrub thicket and 200 acres of sandy beach and dunes.

The total species of birds seen within the park boundaries is currently at 313! Oh, and did I mention that they also have alligators! So don’t forget to keep an eye on your surroundings because they will occasionally cross the trails…

These American Coots better watch out!!!
