Birds, Birds, Birds…

Birds, Birds, Birds…

I went birding yesterday and other than being extremely hot, is was a nice outing.

I didn’t see any new birds for the year, but I did get to see a lot of birds (especially for July).

Let’s play guess the bird… I’ll show you a photo and before you scroll down take a guess as to just what bird it is.  Hint: this bird is bright blue, but not a Bluebird.

Did you guess the Indigo Bunting? The only other bird in the US that is similar would be the Blue Grosbeak, but they are a bit larger with chestnut wing bars.

Okay, let’s try another one. Hint: this one can be very noisy…

It’s the Yellow-breasted Chat. They are often heard, but seldom seen. They will hide in the low shrubs or thickets clucking, hooting and whistling.

Here is one more chance for you to guess it right. Hint: this one is often not very noticeable as to where it got its name…

The Red-bellied Woodpecker. The red on its belly is difficult to see. Though once you learn its song and calls you shouldn’t have any trouble identifying them ever again.

Remember to stay healthy and stay safe!
