My Recent Bird Sightings…

Back at the wildlife refuge I tried to get some photos of the birds that I saw. I did notice that there were a few birds that weren’t around at all…

I never heard the Eastern Towhee, Northern Bobwhite, Prairie Warbler or Northern Parula. Usually I can’t be there for 15 minutes without hearing all of these birds. Now the Parula and the Warbler might have already started their migration south, but the Towhee and Bobwhite pretty much don’t leave the area, so they must have just been doing the summer silence (when the birds don’t bother singing much since they already have found a mate and had their families)…

If you want to try to guess what birds I did see, take a look below and make a guess before you scroll down past the photo…

This cutie (sarcasm), the Turkey Vulture actually is an exception to most birds, because they have a great sense of smell and are able to find carrion by the odor. They really do us a big favor by cleaning up road kill throughout the US.

What do you think this next bird is?

It’s the Anhinga. This is a female with its buff head and neck, the male is mostly black.

Last one, what do you think it is, it’s an easy one…

This is the Red-headed Woodpecker. This one is a juvenile, if you look closely you can see a bit of brown on its head still. They start out with a brown head and it turns to red within their first year.

How did you do? Did you get any correct?

Remember to stay healthy and stay safe!
